Ana Katrina Tan
Born in Manila, Philippines, Ana Katrina Tan,
always had an interest for dance. At the age of 4, she was enrolled
in Russian ballet at the Royal Academy of Dancing in Quezon City,
Manila, where she began the start of her extensive ballet training.
She was training for two hours / five days a week under the direction
of Prima Ballerina’s
Tita Radaic and Lisa Makuha.
At the age of 10, Ana moved to Santa Clara, California. There she
continued to study Russian ballet at Santa Clara Ballet School under
the direction of Josefa Villanueva and Benjamin Reyes. She became
a company member almost instantly and performed in many ballets
such as: The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Peter and The Wolf, Les
Sylphides, and many others. At the age of 15, Ana started taking
Jazz at local dance studios. She found her passion and concentrated
on Jazz for a bit. She was a member of Pioneer High School Dance
team all four years and captain her senior year. They competed at
many high school competitions all over the bay, down south, and
Orlando, Florida. Her biggest accomplishment as captain was sweeping
all of there categories at Nationals in Orlando, Florida in March
of 2000.
At the age of 21, Ana auditioned for Dance Attack’s Hip Hop
Anonymous (AKA Anonymous Tip) under the direction of Felonious Keith
Pinto and performed at many local shows. This was the first time
she was introduced to Hip Hop and loved it. She then went on to
audition for Funkanometry SF and was a company member for about
a year before joining Phoenix Dance Company, where she assists Sean
“Rictor” Smith as company Administrator.
Ana
teaches classes in hip hop, leaps & turns, ballet technique
and lyrical.
